Value calculator

Work out the most a field-monitoring service could cost per acre per year for your own farm numbers to pay, and test any cost you choose.

Sample · Illustrative calculation — your inputs

Everything you type stays in your browser. Nothing is sent or stored by AgriNova.

The example farm is 320 ac of canola and 320 ac of spring wheat at the published yields and prices, with the scenario assumptions for handling and setup; loading it replaces your entries.

Your farm

Enter the area of each crop you grow. Leave a crop blank if you do not grow it.

Numbers: a point for decimals (45.2); a comma only between thousands (1,200).

Results

Illustrative calculation using your inputs. It is not a prediction for your farm and not an AgriNova result. Published figures are planning-budget values, not your costs. AgriNova has not confirmed public pricing.

Break-even subscription: the most the service could cost per acre per year for these assumptions to pay.

This page needs JavaScript to calculate. Without it, the table of the example farm above shows the break-even subscription at four yield changes.

Calculated Financial results use the formulas under “About this tool”. Hours recovered keep their input label.

What it is

Known limits
A provincial average for one crop year, not your yield. The table also holds in-season estimates for 2026; this calculator uses the revised 2025 averages.

Known limits
A 2026 planning price: the guide uses the average crop-year farm-gate price. It is not a market quote or a price you will receive; the guide asks producers to check current prices.

Source & method: Irrigation Saskatchewan 2026, canola (Outlook, SK)
What it is
A published figure (applied water, 8.0 inches) and a figure calculated from the same row (pumping cost, $2.00 per acre-inch): Canola budget (printed p. 8), row 'Irrigation power': 8.0 inches, $16.00 per acre. The pumping-cost default is about $2.00 per acre-inch, calculated from the guide's irrigation power cost per acre.

Who measured
Irrigation Saskatchewan
Where / when
The guide's irrigated canola assumption for the Outlook, SK area, not a Prairie default
Sample size or area
Not available
Baseline / method
Applied water as published. Pumping cost calculated: the guide prints no rate per acre-inch, so $16.00 per acre ÷ 8.0 inches = $2.00 per acre-inch. Both are defaults you can change.
Known limits
Irrigation power for a 40 hp pump and a 7-tower low-pressure pivot; your water use and pumping cost differ. Fixed district water charges are not saved when pumping falls.

About this tool: formulas, labels and limits

Formulas (per season, CAD; areas in acres)

  • Contribution per 100% yield change: D = Σ area × yield × (price − handling cost per extra bushel).
  • Value of the yield change: K = yield change × D.
  • Input savings: I = Σ spend × saving. Irrigation: W = irrigated area × inches × pumping cost per acre-inch × water saving. Cash labour: L.
  • Value of benefits: B = K + I + W + L. Hours recovered are shown separately and never counted as cash.
  • Other costs: O = setup + adviser fees + field operations + equipment.
  • Break-even subscription: (B − O) ÷ total acres, per acre per year (× hectare-to-acre factor per hectare).
  • With a subscription: S = hectares × rate per hectare per month × billed months; total extra cost C = S + O; net benefit N = B − C; benefit per $1 = B ÷ C; return = N ÷ C (not applicable when C = 0).
  • Break-even yield change: the cost left after other savings, R = C − I − W − L, divided by D, after checking the cases where no division makes sense (R ≤ 0; no crop area; D = 0; D < 0).
  • Break-even extra bushels per acre: (C ÷ total acres) ÷ (price − handling) on every acre, or C ÷ (crop acres × (price − handling)) if one crop carries the cost.

Numbers are kept at full precision and rounded once for display, half away from zero. A break-even is a threshold: shown rounded it reads "about", because typing the rounded figure back in does not give exactly zero.

What the labels mean

Published figure
A number from a named public source, with the date it was read.
Scenario assumption
An editable assumption with no external source.
Your input
Typed by you. It never leaves your browser.
Calculated
The output of the formula shown (the pumping-cost default is calculated from two published figures).

Limits

  • This calculator does not know your farm. It multiplies the numbers you give it; it does not estimate what a service would change.
  • Published yields are provincial averages and published prices are provincial planning prices; neither is yours.
  • No subscription price is suggested: AgriNova has not confirmed public pricing.
